Nerman Museum Education Programs for Students

The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art offers a variety of educational programs and resources for students. Printed orientation materials, interpretive labels and self-guided tours enhance museum experiences for students of all ages.

Programs

JCCC students regularly attend many of our free programs for extra credit or for personal enrichment. We have artists give lectures at exhibition openings. Our Third Thursday visiting artist presentations feature local professional artists, and faculty moderators promote interaction with the student audience during the Q&A segment. On Wednesdays, Noon at the Nerman gallery talks are presented, in which JCCC faculty and staff from various disciplines introduce students to a selected work of art.

Tours for Study Groups and Club Visits

Does your study group have an interest in learning more about contemporary visual art and culture? Any group of 5-50 individuals can schedule a guided tour. The museum has provided guided tours of our diverse permanent collection for the JCCC International Club, as well as enrichment tours for the local National Art Honor Society chapters.

Writing a Paper About an Artwork?

The museum provides helpful resources to guide beginners through the critical analysis process. Compare-and-contrast exercises and art vocabulary words aid students in various writing assignments.

Looking for Work Experience?

The museum provides college students with entry-level employment and opportunities for volunteering, which can help them build their résumés with field work.

Looking for Leadership Opportunities?

The Nerman Museum’s Student Advisory Committee provides high school and college students the opportunity to volunteer and gain leadership experiences. In addition to volunteering with the museum, students can assist in planning and organizing workshops and activities for the public in collaboration with museum staff. Apply to be a volunteer or email intern@nermanmusuem.org.
